Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a key element or fundamental part of the IB Diploma, bringing together the individual subjects studied.
 
Students learn to reflect critically on their learning and thus develop a coherent view of knowledge
TOK develops critical thinking skills - learning how to learn.
 
The course is 'philosophical' in the sense that it encourages students to acquire a critical awareness of what they and others know through the anaysis of concepts, arguments and value judgements.
 
Students become aware of subjective and ideological biases.
 
Students will write one essay and prepare one presentation on a issue in one area that interests them.
 
Universities appreciate TOK as a very valuable component of a students education.
