Ruamrudee International School invites you to TechEX 2003!

At RIS, educators from around the country will gather together to exchange ideas and share experiences regarding the use of technology in the classroom. We will discuss issues that affect technology integration in your school whether your school's program is just beginning or is well developed.

Effectively adapting to the spread of technology in our schools poses one of our greatest challenges in the coming years. At RIS, we believe that the best way for educators to learn to integrate technology into their school is to learn what others are doing and to share their own experiences with others.

To help you meet this challenge, RIS is hosting TechEX 2003, a forum for educators to exchange ideas, skills and experiences with others from across Thailand and the region. This is the only technology conference in Southeast Asia specifically aimed at international schools. The conference will be held on Nov 7th, and will also have some intense training workshops on Nov 6th and 8th.

This year we will have two options for attendance:

1. Friday 1-Day Conference
Price is 2,000 Baht

2. Thursday & Saturday 2-day Intensive Workshop Training and Friday 1-Day Conference
Price is 6,000 Baht

The Friday 1-Day Conference will consist of four 1.5 hour sessions as well as a delicious lunch. Approximately 20 classes will be held each session so you will have a vast range of presentation topics to choose from (see Presenters page on our site) . These classes will be small, with no more than twenty participants in a room. The emphasis on the Friday 1-Day Conference will be to expose you to a variety of ways to use technology in education, learn how to use new educational software, and see what others are doing in your teaching field.

The Thursday and Saturday 2-Day Intensive Workshop Training will involve studying one topic in detail. The courses will begin on Thursday afternoon and run from 3pm-8pm. The workshop will continue on Saturday from 8am-5pm. One credit from San Diego State Univ is offered after completing the workshop. Below is a list of these proposed 2-Day Workshops.

TechEx Hotel Information
If you will be traveling to Bangkok for the TechEX Conference and need hotel accommodation, contact the ALEXANDER HOTEL. The hotel is located near to the school, it is inexpensive, the service is good, and the rooms are quite comfortable.

The room rates are:
-Single 1 night 700 Baht
-Twin (Double) 1 night 800 Baht

Questions about TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION:

How can we adapt our schools (and budgets) to best utilize the tool called technology? How can we keep up with changes in technology, yet maintain and support the technology that we already have? What sort of technical support system works best in a school? How can we really be sure our students are learning more and are better prepared for the world because of the use of technology?

These questions we must ask ourselves. These questions we will explore at TechEX. These questions we hope you will find the answers to at TechEX.

Seminar topics:

Curriculum Development
How can technology be adapted in the classroom to meet the goals of the school curriculum? In this seminar, teachers will exchange experiences and ideas about the use of technology in subject specific areas, such as math, science, history, English, physical education, art and foreign languages.

School Support Systems
Discussions about supporting your school’s technology development. Participants will exchange experiences and ideas about ways of using technology in different parts of the school to meet specific needs, such as those for libraries, for grading, record keeping, finance, personnel, and, perhaps most importantly, network and technical support.

Multimedia
The spread and influence of multimedia is immense. Being able to utilize multimedia to present information is perhaps the most important skill our students require when they leave our halls. At TechEX we will explore website design, digital video, slide shows, animation, interactive designing, streaming, and more. Students who can mix all of these skills seamlessly in a single presentation are bound to be among the most successful.

Business
Representatives from major publishing, software, hardware, Internet, and finance companies will be on hand to demonstrate their services. This will provide an excellent opportunity for you to make contacts and compare choices with the businesses that affect your school the most.

Registration
The registration fee is 2,000 Baht. Early registration (before 7 October) is 1,500 Baht. Do you want to lead a seminar? Participants who lead a seminar will be refunded their registration fee. The registration fee includes light refreshments all day and a finely catered lunch.
