Lunch Program & Agriculture for lunch “Lunch for a beloved child”

“Food” is one of the four essential ingredients for life, upon which we humans depend on for life. “Lunch for a beloved child” is one of FORDEC’S programs for the development of a child. This program has been initiated by FORDEC to alleviate the necessity of hungry children to have a good lunch for those students lacking enough nutritious food to sustain them, which the government in many cases cannot supply. From statistics it was found that only about 30% of children in rural, remote areas, receive such assistance, since the government has not enough budget for this. Those still awaiting lunch program assistance everywhere are found to consist of great numbers.

FORDEC Foundation has been huge promoting this program since the 2000 school year and has supported the program with a budget, assisting several thousand children in four provinces, Buriram, Srisaket, Sakeo, and Suran. Besides this there are several hundred children under the sponsorship of the foundation who are receiving such assistance. These children are in various provinces of the country such as Chiangmai, Nan, Uttaradit, Angtong, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Chaiyapoom, Nakorn Rachasima, Nakorn Sritammarat, Samutprakarn and Bangkok.

The lunch program is just a part of the sponsorship program, whose title is: Promoting Education for Building the Future. These children also receive overall help in every part of education. The children not only gain normal weight, but also better learning ability, better health, and regular school attendance.

In order to carry out these programs, the FORDEC foundation needs a lot of fund and FORDEC would like to appeal to all concerned for more contribution to support the program.

Education & Development for poor student Program“Sponsorship to Improve a Child’s Future”

Children are the nation’s future human resources. Perhaps the most important means in developing them to become good citizens is primarily via good education to help them develop physically, mentally, emotionally and socially, all at the same time. This will help them to grow up into quality adulthood and contribute in developing the nation in turn. All social sectors must be made aware of these priorities and collaborate in support and in prevention of all obstacles before it’s too late.

One of FORDEC’s most important missions is to uphold a vision of education for needy children, to stay in school. FORDEC also looks for sponsors for those kids to promote the program “Sponsorship for Education”… helping build young people’s future. The program will give continuing assistance to needy children for their education. It is person to person sponsorship program with only 25 baht per day, or 750 baht per month or 9,000 baht per year. You alone, or you as part of one organization or company where all staff join in to sponsor such a dream of a bright future for one child for any length of time, will be fully appreciated. There are no time limitations or other commitments to the child or family.

Past results of this program have shown that such sponsor-child relationship, rather than alienate the child from its own family, have motivated the child to attend higher education and helped even encouraged the family to love the child more and overcome other obstacles. Currently there are more than 2,000 children, who have been carefully screened and are awaiting sponsorship. Those children are all over in the upcountry such as Chiangmai, Chiangrai, Nan, Nakorn Panom, Surin Burirum, Srakaew, Samutprakarn and many others along with Bangkok. Needless to say they are all from very poor families. Some are orphans of aids victim, orphans from separated parents and some are just left with grandparents or relatives. Some fortunate ones are living at program centers and only go home once a month because their homes are in the mountains, remote and lacking all necessary resources. Most parents are laborers working daily wages whose overall earnings are below the poverty line. Those children’s future lie totally in the hands of kind hearted adults in our society. They place their hope in FORDEC and your assistance.

The program for education and development of the deprived children requires FORDEC foundation to offer special assistance before the commencement of each educational year. There will be parents, young people come to the center or hand in letters plea for help in tuition fees ranging from pre-school to post graduate studies. Those fees go to all types of educational institutions such as centers, schools, college, institute and universities etc. The needs for education expenses range from a few hundred baht up to over 30,000 in each case. Besides feeds, they also lack materials to go to school such as clothing, uniforms, books, pens, school bags, shoes etc. FORDEC foundation has been spending almost one million baht for such need since 2003 till today.

“Welfare and development…for Elderly people program”

 1. This program is set up to take care of poor and homeless elderly people who are abandoned by the family and are incapable of taking care of themselves.
 2. To assist the aged people who still live with families but in need of medical care or physical therapy but are too poor to afford the professional services needed.
 3. To take away some of the burden of poor families who can not afford to take care of aged parents and to prevent some social illnesses such as roaming homeless elderly people. Such assistance will keep them reasonably decent and happy in our society.
 4. Such will be an act of gratitude towards the old who once contributed to our society. Such a program will help alleviate their concern when they get too old to make a living and knowing that the government can not reach out to look after all of them.

In the past, FORDEC Foundation has offered help to the aged in the following areas:

 1. In Samutprakarn Province, 9 cases via Channukroe Institute.
 2. In Nakorn Rachasrima, 56 families and over 100 families in the Metropolitan Bangkok.
 3. Help provide several types of equipments for phi seal therapy at 2 centers for the elderly in Prae province. There are about 3,500 members who come regularly for services. These 2 centers are located in Song district and Nongmuangkai district.

Currently there are about over 150 families in Chaiyaphum province awaiting help from FORDEC foundation. Some old couples live alone, some are lucky to live with children or grandchildren. But 95% of them are under the poverty line, lacking even the most basic needs for survival such as “Food”. Most are paralyzed, suffering undernourishment, high blood pressure, malfunction of bladder etc. Some 2 years ago, a community leader asked FORDEC to help transport an amount of rice donated to those poor families, FORDEC immediately responded to the request.

 “School Library”

The Foundation of Rehabilitation and Development of Children and Family (FORDEC) has established the program in recognition of the importance of a community library in the creation of the education and intellectual wee-being of the children. It will help instill the love of reading books, help entertaining the children in their spare time. FORDEC requests donations of books from kind donors and help supply books and other educational materials to various libraries all over the county with dictionaries, text books, school learning equipments, media for education such as TV sets, video, VCDs, radio, tapes etc. For example, we received over 40,000 copies of the royal writing called Phra Mahachanok (cartoon version). FORDEC has distributed those books to over 2,500 provincial schools in Surin, Buriram, Srisaket, Mukdaharn, Nakornpanom, Chiangmai, Chiangrai, Nan, Srakaew, Kalasin Nokornsirthammarat, Cholburi, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhotai and Bangkok

Moreover, FORDEC has been assisting the following school libraries: Santowitthaya school in Utradit Province and Sulao Klongchan School in Bangkok. Also school libraries of Tubtin Siam 05 in Srakaew Province (a royal sponsored school by Her Royal Highness Princess Chulapornwalailuck), Library of the Foundation of Srichumpabarn Sisters at Dindaeng in Bangkok, the School library of Kirikarn at Kaokaew village, Lansapha district in Nakornrajsima province, the Community Library for the program for education and development for children in Chaiyaphum province and at Maechaem district in Chiangmai province etc. However, there are still more needs for books, text books and other educational materials and mediums for those remote areas at the border between Thailand and Cambodia. Good books for the children are much in needs amongst those families who are mostly living under the standard mean.
