Many of you were aware of the devastation done to lives and livelihoods of people in the various parts of Thailand by the recent flooding. RIS immediately initiated a collection drive in order to purchase much needed rice, water, dry foods and supplies to those in need. We are pleased to report that 83,823 baht was collected and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the RIS and RIST students, faculty and their families, along with the LeoRIS Club, who made this possible. Members of the Sueb Sampantawong Church (Mrs. Lincy’s church) also donated an additional 16,100 baht and joined us in purchasing needed supplies.
We selected the hometown of one of our HS janitorial staff, Khun Pramote Butrnark, which was one of the places suffering heavily from the floods. Although we were ready to go as soon as possible in October, the flooding situation became worse and many of the roads and highways were under water, preventing us from delivering our supplies. But as soon as the roads opened up, we were all ready to go.
On Monday, December 5th, Ms. Shirley Gamble, 6 seniors and 15 members of our janitorial and classified staff represented RIS and personally delivered supplies with the help of Phu Yai Baan Wanchai of Moo 5 Municipality to over 100 needy families in Tombol Thong Ane, Amphur Inburi, Singburi Province.
Being able to help the local people in need was a heartfelt experience for all of us. Once again, thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you! |
