May is the Month of Measurement
Beginning May 2 and running for three weeks, seniors at RIS will be engaged in high stakes external exams. These tests are created by both the International Baccalaureate Organization and the College Board, and taken by students around the world. Individual student results are used by universities to determine advanced standing as an incoming student, or to award university credit in individual subjects.

Ruamrudee International School students have a long history of doing very well on these exams and their success can been seen in the tables: AP and HL Statistics ( Click to view). This year, even with disruptions caused by the flooding, I would expect our students will again shine on their exams. Teachers and students have been working very hard in preparation. The examination schedule is posted for students, the teachers have been given their assignments for monitoring exams, and arrangements for the security of exams has been taken.
Parents are encouraged to help their children prepare through encouraging good nutrition and proper rest. Any student, who is stressed, over tired, or has not eaten, will not perform as well as they are capable. Last minute ‘cramming’ though very common may not be as beneficial as a few extra hours of sleep. |

RIS would ask parents to monitor their son/daughter throughout the month of May and if we as a school can assist, please contact your son/daughter’s counselor.
For Grade 9-11 students, and seniors not taking IB or AP courses, school for the first three weeks of May carries on as usual. Classes will meet on the regular schedule and teachers will be teaching and assigning work as normal. Testing for these RIS students will begin on Monday May 28. These exams also represent high stakes testing as GPAs are calculated over the four years a student is in high school, and is considered as one piece of university acceptance.
May is a busy month and also a very exciting and stressful month. For seniors, May
is the last month of their Pre-school – Grade 12 education. Graduation is just around the corner, and the future is both unknown and anticipated. Positive encouragement will go a long way in helping students cope and succeed. Working together, we all can support students in all grades and especially the class of 2012.
