I would like my child to participate in programming after the normal school day ends - how can I sign up?
RIS is dedicated to ensuring that all of our students grow academically and developmentally and yet if they are feeling ill or bothered by a medical issue they will be unable to learn productively. As such RIS has a well staffed School Clinic meeting our children’s needs, if and when they are necessary. If your child takes a regular medication or has any specific medical needs it is important for our School Clinic staff to have that information to best support your child. To contact the Health Clinic you may call 02-791-8900 ext 244. 304 or email Nurse Porntip at firstname.lastname@example.org
RIS boasts nearly 1300 students working with over 170 teachers and participating in over 100 campus programs/organizations thus there is always something happening at Ruamrudee International School In order for you to remain informed we try to post all campus wide events on Facebook and section specific programs on our student portals. Please use the links below to locate the best calendar for your need.
Community Service is an integral part of the school mission and culture at RIS. For our community, giving one’s self to others, represents one of the primary tenets of character development that is espoused in the RIS mission statement. With a particular focus on building student awareness of those in need, RIS’s contributions in the arena of service act as an exemplar for many other international schools. Every day, using our Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs), the goal is to build upon our students’ foundation of compassion, global citizenship, and civic responsibility.
Students at RIS come from a variety of religious backgrounds. The school respects this diversity, while believing that students can continue to develop and apply values in their everyday life. While Catholic students engage in religion classes, students of other faiths participate in a Values course across every grade level. Respectful of the uniqueness and diversity of the individual, Values enables each student to participate in experiential learning and the evolution of their personal values system. This facilitates the internalization of the course content through lectures, discussions, debates, community service and a variety of cooperative learning and critical thinking activities.
Over the course of this school year RIS students, families, and staff have been engaged in a number of service efforts. Below is a synopsis of how our students, faculty, and staff are making a difference.
Students from our Red Cross Club spent a week raising funds to support cancer research while educating the student body on the ways to avoid and/or screen for breast, skin, or prostate cancer. The RIS community participated in special dress down days raising funds for cancer research. The week culminated in over 80 students, faculty, and staff having their hair cut at least 10 inches with the goal of donating their ponytail to an organization which makes wigs for patients struggling against the side effects of chemotherapy.
For over 10 years , with the help of the Redemptorist Fathers, the Ruamrudee International School community has connected with local prison inmates to teach provide English language classes. Twice a week faculty, staff, and friends of RIS visit their incarcerated pupils and aid in their language development as encouraging self-esteem and improving their career chances upon their return to the outside world.
The Interact Rotary Club and the Leo Club complete fundraising initiatives across campus, whether it be creating a haunted house, selling concessions during tournaments, raising funds for an annual Habitat For Humanity project or organizing a service trip to a community in Thailand that needs support in building or rehabilitating housing. On average, the clubs raises $7500 to support the Habitat program as well as ensuring nearly 60 students have transportation to and from the multi-day site. This past year the students built 3 new houses and rehabilitated 3 others over a four day period.

The mission of the Performing Arts Department at RIS is to provide quality experiences that are rich and varied in the pursuit of excellence. We aim to build a supportive and strong foundation across the Performing Arts Department that embraces interdisciplinary collaboration. This means that performances are often a blend of theatre, dance, music and song. We strive to maintain a balance between the processes of creating work whilst giving students opportunities to perform a variety of shows to a wide range of audiences.
The Visual Arts Department strives to create a strong artistics foundation across grade levels. Instruction focuses on students embracing the individualism, collaboration and creativity in the process of making art. The department facilitates both the development of student work and the display of their projects to a variety of audiences. Throughout the year student artwork can be found displayed in the hallways, on bulletin boards, and in classrooms across campus as well as in St. Luke’s Gallery.
Over the course of this school year RIS students have been involved in a number of Art projects across campus. Below are a few examples of our students’ work during this school year.
Beginning several years ago Ruamrudee International School launched an Artist-in-Residence (AiR) program, unique to international school’s in Bangkok. Professional artists from around the world have been invited to work closely with our students and staff in various forms of the performing and visual arts. The experience offers a truly extraordinary opportunity for our students to gain exposure to the expertise and creative energy of internationally renowned artists, dramatists and filmmakers. Read below for information about the 2013-2014 AiR program.
Performing Arts - AiR - Diana Yourke
Diana Yourke is a free-lance singer, dancer, actress, health specialist and teacher born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. In her upbringing she was raised with the freedom to dance to music all over her house without being judged. It is now her mission to bring the opportunity to feel that same lack of inhibition to the world. Her passion is bringing joy to others by helping them find connection between music and movement. She graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College, is a CMA (Certified Movement Analyst) with a degree from LIMS (Laban Institute of Movement Studies) in NY and a Kripalu Certified Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant. She now teaches private and group classes on voice and movement, choreographs performances for herself and others and performs as a singer, dancer and actress in the NYC area.
This year, a three week intensive workshop for Middle School and High school students will be run by our AiR, Diana Yourke. The workshop will lead up to a final 75 minute musical theatre production in the Performing Arts Centre at RIS. In the first week, students will experience auditions, call backs and casting. In the second week, students will write an original script and begin to rehearse scenes and musical numbers. In the third "tech" week, students will memorize lines and begin running the show with costumes and lighting. Finally, the students will perform for the entire HS and selected ES and MS classes in the PAC. This workshop will include around 40 students and will feature assistant directors Cat Bennett and Shorna Shand.
International Food Festival
As RIS celebrated our annual International Food Festival day elementary school students performed musical numbers in traditional cultural costumes of the country/culture they were representing through song and dance. Conversely, the middle school band entertained the crowds as they enjoyed some of the delicious foods. The day of performances allowed students to showcase their incredible talents, while also providing them the opportunities to study and explore other cultures through the arts.Visual Art Through the Years
With extensive visual art instruction from PreSchool through grade 12 our students have produced countless pieces of visual art as they learn how to effectively use the color palette or explore the use of space in still life or sculpture.
Finally, in High School our Visual Art building has been a buzz with art projects utilizing all forms of media; from charcoal, to wire and plaster, to film. Students have had multiple opportunities to showcase their work in St. Luke’s Gallery, with official openings and formal displays.
The Extended Day Program (EDP) is an activity-based program open to all students. Courses engage students in fun activities within a safe environment contributing to the growth and development of the whole child. Many of these activities build teamwork and unlock students’ hidden talents. The wide range of activities introduce students to a variety of choices that can inspire creativity, artistic expression, and a sense of personal accomplishment. The 2014-2015 1st Semester Program runs from the 3rd week of school until December 4, 2014.
The EDP Registration will begin in August during student’s first week of school. For examples of what may be offered check out the 2103-2104 Spring Semester’s offerings. We look forward to another great year of EDP learning, fun, and excitement.
