Cancer Awareness Week 2022

Hosted by the Cancelling Cancers Club

The Cancelling Cancers Club hosted its annual Cancer Awareness Week from January 25 to January 27, raising funds in support of cancer research for affordable immunotherapy treatment in Thailand through multiple fundraising and awareness events.

The club organized a lucky dip and ribbon sales as well as encouraged dress-up days themed after cancer-awareness colors—pink on Tuesday, the 25th, for breast cancer; white on Wednesday, the 26th, for lung cancer; and purple on Thursday, the 27th, for pancreatic cancer. A “ribbon race” was held after school on each day where high school and middle schools earned house or grade level points for every ribbon returned.

The Cancelling Cancers Club also took the opportunity to present informational videos to the school community about the current cancer situation and Immunotherapy. On the final day of Cancer Awareness Week, community members had the opportunity to donate hair for wigs for cancer patients at the ‘Give Hair, Give Care’ event.

Earlier in the school year (October 23, 2021), the student-led club already presented an impressive 40,000-baht cheque to Chulalongkorn University Systems Biology (CUSB) to help cancer immunotherapy research in Thailand. The students also had the opportunity to visit the CUSB labs and see the current technology used for cancer research and attend a lecture by the Director of CUSB on the latest cancer treatments and progress updates. We look forward to supporting their future endeavors and continuing efforts to raise awareness and “make affordable cancer treatments possible” for all Thais!
