Elementary School Instructional Assistant
REPORTS TO: Elementary School Principal & Assistant Principal
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Elementary School Instructional Assistant supports homeroom or subject teachers by assisting with teaching, classroom management, and fostering a positive learning environment. The role requires ensuring student safety and well-being while working collaboratively with teachers to meet educational goals. The assistant may occasionally be assigned additional responsibilities by the ES Principal or Assistant Principal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with classroom instruction by supporting teachers in delivering lessons and facilitating differentiated learning for individuals or small groups.
- Support classroom management by helping maintain established routines and procedures.
- Understand and respond to the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of students.
- Contribute to a respectful and nurturing classroom environment.
- Show initiative and seek guidance to effectively support teaching and learning.
- Communicate respectfully and constructively with all members of the school community.
- Use technology and software effectively to support classroom activities.
- Participate in assigned duties, including before-school, morning, lunch, and afternoon recess rotations.
- Supervise students on the playground to ensure safety and promptly report any incidents.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and teacher discussions.
- Ensure compliance with school policies on safety, security, and proper use of school property.
- Assist in preparing learning materials, such as photocopying, laminating, and setting up bulletin boards.
- Attend required seminars, training sessions, and meetings, including:
- Section/Department Meetings led by the ES Principal or Assistant Principal.
- Staff Meetings conducted by HR to provide updates on operational issues and school policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education.
- Teaching license (preferred).
- Experience in supporting teaching and learning in a school environment.
- Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written).
- For non-native speakers, a proficiency score from one of the following:
- TOEFL®: iBT 80, CBT 213, PBT 550
- TOEIC: 690
- IELTS: 6.5
- Practical knowledge of IT tools and software for learning support.
