Destination Imagination!

Destination Imagination!

By Kevin Brodeur and Jeremy Kes

Destination Imagination has come to RIS! Nineteen students—in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade, along with their coaches Mr. Jeremy, Mr. Aaron, and Mr. Kevin, participated in the inaugural season of Destination Imagination, or DI, at RIS.

DI is a worldwide competition in which students collaborate to devise unique solutions to prescribed challenges. Their solutions typically involve a great deal of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics know-how. The solutions are then put to the test at the many regional competitions held around the world, with the best solutions from each country going on to the Global Finals in Tennessee, USA.

Our three DI teams at RIS were tasked with solving various technical, engineering, and service-learning challenges. The teams worked together after school each week to come up with their solutions and had a lot of fun in the process.

Two of our teams had the opportunity to demonstrate their solutions this April in Singapore, along with 80 teams from many other countries. Our teams ultimately qualified for the Global Finals. It was a weekend full of laughing and learning and a great way to wrap up DI’s first season at RIS. We hope to have more success—and more teams—next year.

Congratulations to all of our DI teams!
