RIS Guidelines for Campus Opening 2020–2021

The opening of the RIS campus for the 2020–2021 school year is guided by OPEC’s Measures to Support Educational Management During the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Outbreak for Private International Schools. As an educational institution, RIS is held to a high standard of safety procedures set by OPEC and ISAT, which we are required to follow. Also, RIS is committed to the following expectations and procedures to ensure that we meet health, safety, and hygiene standards:

  • Protecting the health and safety of students and the school community.
  • Following the guidelines as set by the Thai Ministry of Public Health.
  • Providing students with as many familiar school routines as possible to support social-emotional and academic learning.
  • Providing clear expectations for teachers, staff, and students during the COVID-19 learning environment.

COVID-19 Expectations for All Members of the RIS Community

All students, parents/guardians, faculty, staff, and vendors/visitors:

  • Will have their temperature checked when entering the campus.
  • Must wear a mask while on campus that covers their nose and mouth.
  • Must sanitize their hands when entering and exiting rooms.
  • Need to use the one-meter distancing requirement at all times.
  • Are not permitted to be on campus if they show any symptoms of illness and must be symptom-free for 48 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
  • Must display their school ID and have received a sticker at the gate showing they have submitted the current RIS Health Declaration Form.

Expectations for Students

All students:

  • Must leave campus by 3:00 pm and proceed to the relevant gate for pick up. (Staff children must be with their parents by 3:00 pm.)
  • Are not permitted to be in the Thomas and Redeemer Coffee Shops after school.
  • Must not bring personal toys or other non-academic items to school. 
  • Need to bring their own water bottle from home.
  • Are not permitted to use the playground equipment.
  • Will carry their bags and supplies with them to class and NOT use lockers.

Expectations for Parents, Guardians & Nannies

  • Parents/guardians/nannies should not linger/socialize on campus after sending their child to class/meeting point. 
  • Parents/guardians/nannies will arrive at the assigned start time and dismissal time.

Expectations for Faculty & IAs

  • Any shared resources must be cleaned before and after use.
  • Ensure students are separated by one meter throughout the school day, including classrooms, transitioning to/from breaks, special subjects, and PE.

Expectations for Classified Staff

  • Classified Staff may be assigned to the canteen and before/after school supervision duties.

Procedures for Clinic Personnel

  • The Clinic will be available for students who need to be sent home due to illness or injury.
  • Any RIS community member who shows symptoms of COVID-19 will be isolated and screened by RIS nurses. 

Expectations for Janitorial Staff & PCS

  • The janitorial staff will sanitize tabletops, door handles, banisters, light switches, elevator buttons, etc., continually throughout the day.
  • The janitorial staff will sanitize toilets and sinks continually throughout the day.
  • There will be an increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting classrooms.

Expectations for the Canteen & Coffee Shops

  • Janitorial staff will sanitize tables before and after use.
  • All community members will follow social distancing rules while waiting in line, ordering, eating, or drinking.
  • Snack and lunchtimes will be supervised by RIS staff to ensure social distancing.
