RIS Celebrates 50 Years of the Rubik's Cube with Special Community Event
RIS Ruamrudee International School marked the 50th anniversary of the Rubik’s Cube with a vibrant celebration that brought together young puzzle enthusiasts, distinguished guests, and the school community. The event, held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at The Nest, showcased the enduring appeal of this iconic puzzle that has challenged minds across generations.
Dr. Nathan Meisner, RIS Secondary School Principal, opened the festivities with a warm welcome to the attendees. The Vice Ambassador of Hungary followed with remarks paying tribute to the cube’s Hungarian origins and its inventor, architect Ernő Rubik. The World Cube Association Delegate of Thailand then shared insights into the puzzle’s impact on problem-solving skills and its thriving competitive scene.
Students aged 4 to 12 participated in a variety of engaging activities throughout the three-hour celebration. Interactive stations around The Nest offered different ways to explore the classic puzzle. Children immersed themselves in cube-themed art challenges and tested their knowledge through an animated Kahoot quiz. A highlight was the speed-cubing demonstration, where skilled cubers showcased impressive solving techniques, inspiring many young attendees to try their hand at the puzzle. Guided sessions provided opportunities for beginners to learn solving methods and for more experienced cubers to refine their skills.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony where participants received commemorative T-shirts, medals, and special edition Rubik’s products. Ms. Pavla Poch, the event organizer, noted that the celebration successfully achieved its aim of combining educational value with entertainment, while honoring the lasting legacy of one of the world’s most beloved puzzles.
This gathering not only commemorated the Rubik’s Cube’s golden anniversary but also reinforced RIS’s commitment to fostering creativity and analytical thinking among its students through engaging, community-centered events.
