A celebration of Thai culture and community
On April 11, 2025, the RIS community came together to celebrate Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year, with a day full of color, culture, and fun. Organized by the Thai Department and supported by the Parent Auxiliary, the festivities highlighted the rich traditions of Thailand.
The morning featured Thai cultural activities at the HS breezeway, where students rotated through stations showcasing crafts and customs. A highlight was the hands-on Phi Ta Khon mask-making booth, offering students a creative connection to Thai folklore. Food booths featuring authentic Isaan cuisine added to the festive atmosphere.
A special part of the morning was the Rod Nam Dum Hua ceremony, where students honored teachers and elders through a traditional water-pouring ritual to seek blessings for the year ahead.
In the afternoon, the community gathered in Godbout Hall for a school-wide assembly featuring performances by students from each section. Although stormy weather delayed the start — a fitting moment for a water festival — the enthusiasm of students and staff remained high.
After school, the celebrations continued outdoors with designated water zones, a slip-and-slide, and activity booths. Students in colorful floral shirts filled the field with laughter, water fights, and the spirited energy that defines Songkran.
The 2025 Songkran celebration brought together tradition, creativity, and community spirit, leaving participants with vibrant memories of a joyful day.
